Aegisub, a powerful and versatile tool to create and edit video subtitles, is available.
You have a lot of control over the program. You can choose the font size, style and colour of your text. The Style Editor can seem complicated, but the Preview window immediately displays any modifications.
You have many choices to help you with subtitle timing. Waveform and spectrum analyzer modes allow you to precisely place subtitles, rather than being left guessing. Although it may seem complicated, once you get the hang of things, it is actually quite simple. Developers suggest that "with some training", you can time 350-400 lines in dialog into a 25-minute clip within 40 minutes. We think this is true.
Aegisub comes with a variety of support functions that will help you get through your process. These include a spelling checker, color picker and translator, as well as visual timing tools. You even get built-in Lua scripting, for extreme configurability.
Importing almost any video format is possible. Your finished work can be exported in any of the following formats: ST, SUB/ SSA, STL or ENCORE.TXT.
Aegisub is not for beginners: You can't simply type text and have it show up in a video. The encoded results will also be saved. It does require some work. Aegisub is a great choice if you are looking to make a lot of subtitles with professional quality on a daily basis and can spend time to learn its features.
