Windows has had a basic screen-grabbing tool since its inception. This ranges from the primitive Print Screen Key that copies the whole screen to the clipboard, to the more advanced Snipping Tool for Vista and Windows 7 which allows you to select parts of active windows or the entire screen with or without the mouse cursor.
This may suffice for most users, but WinSnap is a great professional option that offers more options and features. Although it's very small, the program gives you full control of any screen, or part thereof. You can also choose to grab multiple windows or regions from one application.
The Aero background is the main selling feature. There are also handy post-production effects such as adding shadows, reflections, and highlights to your images, watermarking screen captures, adding your background and creating thumbnails.
WinSnap also makes a great shareware program. It has a very low price of US$24.95 and allows you unlimited updates for a lifetime. The latest version (4.5), introduces a delay to screen captures as well as a countdown clock. It can be installed on any number of computers you wish.
Although it's not perfect, the interface is small and easy to use.
